COLOR ASSOCIATION’S LATEST FASHION FORECAST
What’s behind the Color Association’s Fall/Winter 2012-2013 Fashion Forecast for Women? According to executive director and renowned colour expert Leslie Harrington, Ph.D., “A new frugality is on the rise, translating to fashion with a move toward quality-focused garments and longer-wearing apparel. Colours remain fairly safe, with bright and provocative stories reserved for accessories, such as scarves, handbags, or shoes.”

The palettes in this forecast focus on five different themes:

TRANSFORMATION: Fashion reinterpreted and injected with a modern sensibility. Look for greyed-off hues.

HIGH TOUCH: The interaction between people and their gadgets. Silver greys, from light to dark, form this palette’s foundation. With a proven digital track record, blue dominates the story.

ABSURD: Carefree, fun and spontaneous, reminding us that not everything has to have a deeper meaning. An incredible story for prints, with pattern mixing highly encouraged.

BUFFET: Surrounds the notion of social interaction and the growing interdependence of food and fashion, coupled with the desire to unplug from our plugged-in lifestyle and digital relationships and connect with our neighbours. Warm and bright “Persimmon” and “Starfruit” pop against more muted “Custard” and “Dialogue” to create a season-spanning, internationally relevant palette.

TOUR: Takes the high road, throwing caution to the wind and inviting luxury in. Rich, heritage colours, such as are best executed in high-quality fabrics such as velvet, cashmere and corduroy. Investment pieces are favoured over fast fashion and this timeless palette ensures that classic, well-made garments remain in vogue season after season.
